As a sign company who has been in the business for 20 years we know that the sign frame can be just as important as the sign itself. Recently we were approached by a client looking for a custom built metal sign frame that could:

• Advertise multiple products within 1 frame
• Be used for indoor and outdoor applications
• Allow for inserts to be changed quickly and easily
• Be viewed from both sides
• Be dropped shipped to locations around the US

When we heard about this project we were very excited because we love the chance to create a new product that fits our customer’s needs and budget. After our initial planning meeting with the client we decided that we also wanted the sign frame to:

• Have a beautiful form factor
• Be relatively low cost
• Be wind resistant for outdoor use

These inserts are double sided and printed with UV resistant ink to withstand long days out in the sun. The steel frame stands a tall 75″ which means it will not go unnoticed by customers… and that was a priority! Here are a few unique features and things we love about this sign.

Wind Resistant Design

Knowing these sign frames were going to sometimes be used outside of large stores around the country we wanted to make sure that they were resistant to strong wind gusts. A lot of sign frames use springs to connect the frame to its base, but we knew that would not work in this situation due to the height of our design.

What we ended up doing was suspending the inserts from horizontal rods, creating pivot points that allow the inserts to flutter… letting wind pass through when it needs to! Higher wind gusts cause the inserts to partially flip up horizontally, allowing more air to pass through kind of like a vent and basically allowing this frame to never blow over, which commonly happens with larger sign frames.

Easily Changeable Inserts

Changing 4 inserts at once could be a head ache if not easily achieved. This frame design allows for the pivot rod for each insert to be removed, and then slide back into place through the horizontal flutes of the new sign in a matter of seconds. It is simple enough that we don’t even need to provide directions!

Hinged Base

Like I mentioned earlier, many sign frames are connected to their base using springs. Since we do not need springs to help with wind resistance we attached the frame to it’s base using hinges, which allows you to vertically center the sign even if the base is not on a perfectly flat surface. The base can then also be removed or folded up for easier transport.

We ended up drop shipping individual frames to some locations and bulk ship a pallet full to hubs around the US. Our customer was very happy with the final product and so were we. After we saw the potential this frame had in so many applications we decided to make this frame available to all of our customers.
